Some of you might be aware that I have gone to a once-a-week posting schedule for my blog. I will be posting every Monday for the time being, because there are some things going on in the near future that I will be focusing on.
The most exciting of these developments is the “Transgender Studies” class that I will be teaching at Metropolitan State University of Denver for the Spring 2013 semester. This is not a weekend seminar, but a three-credit, full-term class being offered through the Institute for Women’s Studies and Services as part of their Gender and Sexualities minor. I am not only teaching it, but I am designing the curriculum as well, and I couldn’t be prouder.
If you or anyone you know attends Metro State, please spread the word. This is an important class that is designed for anyone who wants or needs to know more about transgender and transsexual issues. It will benefit future therapists, educators, medical personnel, business people, politicians, and everyone else who takes it. No prior “transgender knowledge” is required, and there are no stupid questions. The class was just approved, so will be listed in the online catalog in time for November registration.
In addition to working on this class, I want to write some more “10 Tips” short books (10 Tips for Parents of Adult Trans Children is now available as a pdf download – see right sidebar) and start on some other projects. So for the immediate future, I will be posting on Mondays only. Thank you so much for your support, and thanks for reading!

Awesome news Matt.
I wish that I lived in the area so that I could take this class.
We have something similar down here. I attend Texas Woman’s University in Denton, TX. At the undergrad level we have a class called sexualities and identities that covers LGBT topics. At the graduate level, called transgressive identities, which has a number of prominent trans books (such as Whilping Girl and Nobody Passed) as part of the list of optional/required reading (the whole list is optional, but every student is required to read at least one of the classes). I’m looking forward to both classes in my path to becoming a sex and gender therapist.
Matt, if you ever want to teach online to open your knowledge to anyone (and be paid to do it), I have a format that works wonderfully through Facebook as a platform (I teach 28 students in a rigorous apprenticeship with audio, video and written lessons four days a week, and real time chats)… I’d love to see it happen. Your info ought to get out there! (you can publish this comment or just keep it for your own info, it is up to you). Robin
Congratulations, Matt!!!
MSU Denver is my alma mater!! Also, I worked in the Gay Lesbian Bi & Trans Student Services Office (GLBTSS) 1996-99.
Metro State was so progressive even then: using “trans” not “transgender”, offering one of the first Safe Zone Programs in the country & hosting Loren Cameron and Kate Bornstein for our LGBT Awareness MONTH in October.
In 1997 I founded the Arauria Queer Alliance (AQuA), a radical queer student group at MSU: we were instrumental in getting healthcare benefits for same-sex partners for students, hosting the first same-sex domestic violence symposium on campus, and added gender identity to our mission statement, which was a first for a student organization at the school (even the LGBT Student Association didn’t have it).
I am not surprised to hear Metro State will offer a Transgender Studies course, it has been a progressive college since day one!!
Again, congrats Matt!!!
That’s just great Matt, congratulations!!
Awesome! Love reading your blog, never comment though (I’m too shy). But besides “awesome” I’d just like to add: Please take Robin up on his offer, I’d love to follow an online course!
Matt,
Congratulations on your teaching assignment.
Randi
I wish I could attend your class…congratulations!
Way to go, Matt!!! Sounds like Denver is quite progressive these days. I’ve never been there but have family in Ft. Collins. Courses of study like this will further educate folks about gender just like it was needed a decade or two ago for Gay and Lesbian studies. People “get” LGB and now they will soon “get” the T portion of the acronym. We shoould all be PROUD to have folks like Matt and Zander out there educating the rest of the world about us.
Congratulations !! This is great news. Sad that we lose you one day a week but outstandingly awesome that an entire classroom full of students gets you in person.
I would LOVE to take your class. Oh right, you live there and I live here. Well, I still have the new “10 Tips” to look forward to.
And I’ll pass along this fabulous announcement over at my place. Who knows, maybe I’ve got a reader who will sign up or share it with just the right person/people. The more folks who know what we do, the better we all are.
