Hire Me

Is your workplace, organization, or college campus gender friendly? Do you want to improve your transgender IQ? Are you looking for a trainer or keynote speaker who will engage as well as inform?

Since 1997, I have trained businesses, organizations, faculty, students, and community leaders on transgender issues, and have provided keynote speeches that receive standing ovations. If you have an employee going through an on-the-job transition, if your business or organization deals regularly with the public, or if you just want to know more about transgender and transsexual people, I can help. Please contact me to discuss keynotes, presentations, training, and consultations.

“Matt’s ability to capture one’s attention in both his writings, as well as in person, makes him a “wanted man” when it comes to educating about gender diversity. Matt has the ability to encompass the facts and share them candidly, while at the same time capturing the deepest emotions and feelings of his audience in a way that only a few are able to do with such ease.” – Michael Brown, Executive Director, TransMentors International

“I have an employee going through gender transition. How can I prepare my staff and keep my workplace running with minimal disruption?”

An on-the-job transition doesn’t have to be disruptive or problematic. With the right tools and a properly trained staff, workplace operations will continue as usual – and they could even get better! Staff training prevents time wasted on water-cooler gossip, outlandish rumors, and wild speculations. It also helps alleviate anxiety and fear, and develops supportive attitudes in coworkers. I have consulted with business owners and trained staff in large corporations, small businesses, and government agencies, paving the way for a smooth on-the-job transition for the transitioning employee and his or her employer and coworkers.

“I have co-presented many times with Matt on matters of diversity and have always been very impressed with his knowledge of the field of diversity and his ability to not only engage his audience, but to help them see diverse cultures through the eyes of those who have to live and prosper in world that does not always readily accept them for who they are, thus enhancing the world’s better understanding of those who are different from themselves. Matt would be a positive acquisition for anyone looking for a speaker, trainer, or consultant.” – Kim Dower, RPH and Freelance Diversity and Inspirational Speaker

“My business deals with the public every day, and my line workers need to know how to interact with and provide service to transgender, transsexual, and gender-diverse people.”

Anyone who deals with the public will interact with trans people – we are literally everywhere. And a smart company that wants repeat business will ensure that its employees are skilled in working with diverse populations, including transgender and transsexual people. Basic courtesies, such as the use of “ma’am” and “sir” (and knowing when not to use them) or providing correct directions to the restroom, can signal that your business is gender friendly – or a place to avoid. A properly trained staff feels confident when welcoming and working with all of your customers, and your support of staff training sends the message that you value their comfort level as well as that of your customers.

“Matt Kailey is one of the most polished, well-spoken speakers I have had the pleasure to work alongside. His keen ability to bring across points to the audience is always very humorous and free of any judgements. His training technique is above the norm. He has the skill to take a very serious and complex situation and bring the audience to the center and wrap everyone into the training process.” – Kate Bowman, Sales & Service, Experience Software, Inc.

“I’m an event planner looking for a fantastic keynote speaker with a fresh new topic for my client’s company dinner, conference, or retreat. Any ideas?”

A keynote speech can make or break an event. I provide educational, engaging, and entertaining keynotes that will make your next event one that they’ll be talking about all year. Transgender issues can be adapted to a variety of topic choices, including diversity and inclusion, acceptance of differences, positive change, moving forward, and working together. Or, with trans people so prominent in the media today, consider a “personal journey” keynote that not only educates the attendees about trans issues, but also provides experiences that they can relate to their own (or their company’s) personal or professional journey.

“Matt is a fantastic speaker and an eloquent writer. He works to clearly understand the needs of his audience, and delivers thoughtful, engaging, articulate, intelligent, and (yes) even humorous insight on the realities of transgender experience. We’ve spoken together at several events, and I’ve never failed to be pleased and impressed with his work.” – Jamison Green, PhD, Owner, Jamison Green & Associates

“Matt’s one of the most engaging speakers you could include in any training or consciousness-raising event. He’s the best of all the things one looks for in a speaker – he’s knowledgeable, witty, well spoken, and seems to find just the right balance of head and heart for the material he presents.” – Gus Spheeris, Partner, JSP Advisory, Ltd

“Our campus needs a speaker for Diversity Day, Transgender Awareness Day, or Pride Week. We want to focus on transgender issues in a way that will encourage awareness and acceptance among our faculty and students.”

I have spoken on campuses across the country, bringing transgender awareness to both individual classes and larger campus populations. As a college instructor myself, I am aware of the needs of both students and faculty when it comes to trans education and awareness, and I can provide separate presentations for each group, or one large presentation, as well as come to individual classes while I’m there.

“Matt is an excellent, teacher, trainer and speaker. … I have always enjoyed learning from Matt. He is open, willing to talk about most anything and explore possibilities for growth.” – Joanna Snawder, Associate Director, Metropolitan State College of Denver

“Matt provides trainings and classes that foster a broader understanding of the construction of gender and it’s role in society. He is a very eloquent speaker and challenges his colleagues and trainees to examine their own beliefs and viewpoints.” – Jason Marquez, Student, Metropolitan State College of Denver

“My organization has LGBT in its name, but we really don’t know much about the T. How can we better serve transgender and transsexual clients?”

While many organizations serving the gay, lesbian, and bisexual community have incorporated the letter T into their name, they do not always have the knowledge that allows them to incorporate the trans population into their client base. Staff and volunteer training in transgender and transsexual issues can change the T in your name from just a letter to a way of doing business.

“I have known Mr. Kailey for many years and have heard him present professionally and have read many of his writings. He is a compassionate and authoritative voice on issues related to gender identity and transgender identity issues. A great guy to seek out for information in these areas.” – Rachael St.Claire, PsyD, Licensed Psychologist, Kaiser Permanente
